Snowflake Challenge 2026 #1
Jan. 2nd, 2026 07:18 pmWhat better way to kickstart my journal with participating in this year's
snowflake_challenge!

The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.
Hello and nice to meet you! You can call me Cherie and I go with she/her pronouns. I recently created a dreamwidth account about two weeks ago and quietly exploring the communities filled me with a sense of joy and inspiration seeing fannish interests and fandom celebrated this way.
A little bit of fandom background: I can recall my early days interacting with fandom communities in roleplay forums and the heydays of Livejournal until I eventually moved to Tumblr, spending hours making gif and photosets of my favorite characters. Over time I got more settled in Twitter just until it became... whatever it is today. Unfortunately, my past experiences of fandom in Twitter had heavily dampened how I viewed my interests and how I haven't been really enjoying/engaging with them the way I used to, and how sanitized everything seemed to be. I have been chasing that high of how much I had fun during my Livejournal days for quite a long time now. And so, this is me, at 28, coming full circle and returning back to my digital roots of being unapologetically, unabashedly cringe and Totally Normal about my current and hibernating fandoms, favorite characters and ships.
I'm doing this challenge to put myself out there, hoping to meet like-minded people who enjoy the same things as I do.
Just a few points I'll throw in here that might interest others who will read this entry:

Just a few points I'll throw in here that might interest others who will read this entry:
- I'd like to think of myself as a fanfic writer, even though I have only posted 3 so far... but I do have a lot of plot bunnies and works in progress which are currently not seeing the light beyond my writing program
- I'm quite active in Hoyoverse games (Genshin, Honkai: Star Rail) and I'm always down to discuss the juicy, juicy lore and character dynamics
- I love female protagonists in my joseimuke (Anzu, Izumi, Tsumugi) and I always see them as a whole separate character rather than a self-insert so you bet I'll love her much much more than the male cast lmfao
- I'm currently learning japanese language and dabbling in a bit of translation when I have the time
- I'm a pretty sappy and romantic person in general; romance in all forms hits me right in the core
- Even if we don't share interests, I love learning other people's fandoms even through osmosis and it's enough to get me interested as well! I have so many ships-in-law from my friends because of this.

Date: 2026-01-02 04:21 pm (UTC)Even though I've posted a lot of fic over the years, this is a whole freakin' mood, especially with how much I've been struggling to post stuff the last few years. Here's to both of us getting plot bunnies out of our heads and onto the page!
(Also, nice Hokuto icon~)

>>I have been chasing that high of how much I had fun during my Livejournal days for quite a long time now.<<
Many people are. Find each other with tags and interests like "old web," "small web," and "indie web."
>>I'd like to think of myself as a fanfic writer, even though I have only posted 3 so far...<<
If you've written three then you're a writer. It doesn't have a quality or frequency requirement, just the action.
>> but I do have a lot of plot bunnies and works in progress which are currently not seeing the light beyond my writing program <<

Go you! There's not a lot of language support on DW, but if you watch the Latest Things feed, you'll spot Japanese posts occasionally.

Date: 2026-01-02 09:38 pm (UTC)Oooh that's so cool that you translate things sometimes!! I'm trying to learn Japanese too, but I'm still always so impressed when people do translation work. Getting the tone and word choice right seems so intimidating! What sort of things do you tend to translate?
Best of luck with the snowflake challenge! \o/
